Having known Matt for nearly 6 years since working together with Macclesfield RUFC as Matt’s 1st team Head of Sports Medicine, I now work together with him in a different guise helping Matt develop his explosive running speed for rugby, when he asked if I would be a guest writer on his blog I was happy to oblige.
The two don’t naturally go hand in hand, but having worked for nearly 10 years in the field of Rehabilitation, after completing my undergrad in BSc Sports Rehabilitation and MSc in Exercise and Sports Science: Sports Injury from Salford and Manchester Metro respectively, I’ve now come full circle looking at prevention rather than cure.
This is where the two meet, blending my experience of track running and work in rehabilitation and by 2016 adding UKSCA and UKA accreditation in strength and conditioning and athletics coaching to my repertoire of qualifications and experience.
Currently I work with the MOD rehabilitating injured soldiers, implementing fitness testing and rehab programming with the eventual goal of improving the overall conditioning of the battalion as I have over 600 soldiers in my potential care on camp and a further 1000+ to support with other units. I also undertake consulting with various athletes, sports teams and private clinical organisations as well as guest lecturing nationally and internationally and am always happy to discuss a theme in a blog posting if anyone is interested please get in touch!!
